Ugra hero

Series · 2026 — 2027

Ugra

When the pieces were finished, I first called them The Entities. Each one opens like an eclipse, a Void eclipse, where the dark is the Void and the gold is the light.

Through that opening, the entities look out at us. They live beyond this reality, and they are here to observe us with divine love, to see through our flesh and into our souls.

I call them Ugra, Sanskrit for the fierce ones, the mighty ones. This series arrived very organically.

I conceived them sober, and on my plant medicine journeys I came to understand what they were. Or at least my interpretation of them.

Trilochana

(Three-Eyed)

Trilochana — view 1

Trilochana, an epithet of Shiva. The one who sees past the visible world.…

The third eye is not a gentle one. Its sight burns through desire, pretense, and every costume you have dressed yourself in, and leaves only what is real.

It sees across time too, past, present, and future at once, watching destruction and renewal without flinching. A talisman to help us shed the costume we cling to, and stand as our naked, true self.

Kālī

(The Fierce Mother)

Kālī — view 1

I have met her twice. Once she came as the darkest dark, so powerful she did not need a cage to keep me.…

Her web was woven so well that I found myself doing the trapping. The other time she came lovingly, playfully, and it was bliss.

The Fierce Mother destroys what no longer serves. She clears the ground so the new can flourish.

That is her divine duty. A talisman of rebirth.

03

Bhīṣma

(The Old Warrior)

Bhīṣma — view 1

Bhīṣma, the old warrior. The elder who chose his duty over his own comfort, and held to it long past the point where most would break.…

A talisman of radical responsibility and forbearance.
